An exceptional ryokan, very helpful staff, upon arrival we received a yukata (traditional Japanese clothing) and they even allowed us to go out with the yukata for a walk in the city. Hida Takayama Onsen, Takayama

It is located 2 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village and features luggage storage space. The ryokan has parking on-site, a hot spring bath and full-day security. Our stay at Iroriyado Hidaya was one of the highlights of our 2-week trip. The hospitality was exceptional, probably the best we've ever experienced even in comparison to other more expensive ryokans. Staff were extremely kind and helpful; we had our own itinerary planned out, but we've seen how they assisted other foreign guests with recommendations to visit around Takayama. We had a Japanese speaker in our group, but the language barrier should not be much of an issue as they use a translation device with international guests. Location is quite a bit of a walk from the station, though we felt that it was worth it and they were extremely willing to help with taxi reservations for the next and subsequent mornings. Very highly recommended to stay here :)

It’s really beautiful, very close from the express bus station (which I expect how most of the tourists access Shirakawa-go), the owners are super nice and wholesome, and serves a great meal plus super relaxing hot spring. I absolutely enjoyed my two days stay and made my first time ever trip to Shirakawa-go even more special. I strongly recommend to take the meals served (both dinner and breakfast) because they not only taste lovely but also very healthy! I will definitely revisit here if I come around Gifu-ken!

This is complete paradise. Also the hotel itself doesnt take many guests so hardly get to bump into any other guests- feels like I own the whole place for myself almost.

A very nice ryokan with friendly staff, a bookable private onsen, a lovely lounge / kitchen area, and terrific kaiseki breakfast. The hotel is a nice boutique size and a very pleasant place to stay. A bit of a walk to the station and the historic centre, but not too bad. Yukata etc provided.
- the staff was exceptional courteous and very helpful - Beautiful traditional room with comfortable futon beds - good location near center of Gero - free water, tea and coffee and breakfast included - free yukata to wear - try the private onsen! It is very relaxing, calming and has a nice view on a little garden
The hotel feels ever so slightly on the older side, but in my opinion that works in its favour, as it adds to its charm. Everything was styled as a proper ryokan, the whole hotel has tatami floor. The top level open air Onsen is just fantastic, looking over the city (it was snowing very heavy while I was there, which made it even better). The breakfast buffet is also like a Japanese Kaiseki breakfast, amazing! Staff were also very friendly and polite like most places in Japan.
This Ryokan has a “luxury” and modern feel to it. It could easily be branded as Aman or a Rosewood Hotel since the upkeep and products / amenities used are of very high quality. The room was incredible and very tastefully designed; a mix between dark and light wood. Beds were super comfy, amazing Yukatas to wear around the hotel. Small private onsen and 2 semi private onsen with great Mountain View. Dinner and breakfast were incredible and only high quality and seasonal ingredients were used.
Special place that is part boutique hotel, part ryokan. Great value and 5 star service. We loved the traditional tatami floors, comfortable futon, traditional robes to wear around the property and the impressive Japanese breakfast. Can book a soak in private spa after a day of sightseeing. Can’t go wrong.
Traditional Japanese Ryokan with nicely decorated rooms. This was my first Ryokan experience and I have never felt as well cared for as during my stay there. Futon was very comfortable, too (I have never slept on one before). Staff is very attentive and helpful. Great inhouse onsens. Yukata were available for free for guests. Many ammendities were available for free and I loved their shampoo. Takayama old city center is just a 15 min walk away. Takayama station is just 6 min away by foot.
Vegetarian traditional breakfast was offered upon request! We loved it and our whole stay at this traditional Ryokan! The Onsen is not too hot (still hot haha) and super relaxing. There are even two private Onsen available free of charge (min. 2 people). The rooms are very beautiful and quiet and you’ve got the opportunity to wear Yukata during your stay. We can highly recommend and would love to come back!
Food is the highlight here. Both of the breakfasts I had were wonderful feasts, with warm dishes cooked on little burners at the table. One had crab, beef and tofu stew, eggs, bacon, sausage, all in one meal. The onsen are great. Staff are friendly. All the usual trappings of a Ryokan are here, sandals, tatami, yukata, keys with huge blocky keyrings
