Bungo and his mother run a traditional Ryokan, located a few blocks from the Kanazawa Castle Gardens and Omi-Chi markets, an amazing location. The stand out feature of our experience was Bungo's extraordinary briefing on what was available in Kanazawa and what we might want to do. We loved the Ninja Temple, the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Museum of Modern Architecture, the Omi-Chi markets, the Moat sculpture walkway and of course the gardens. We enjoyed shopping upmarket and in the markets.

Perfect slow down stop after a week travelling Japan! Traditional Japanese hospitality at its best, lovely ryonkan not far from Kanazawa. We were travelling with ouf 8 months son and the staff did a fantastic job trying to accomodate our needs. Thank you very much!

Beautiful location near the river, and whilst we walked everywhere the loop bus from the station stopped nearby. Rooms were amazingly comfortable and spacious in a traditional Japanese style. Buffet breakfast was delicious and staff were friendly, polite and helpful.

Sumiyoshiya is lovely ryokan with a lot of attention to detail. The host is warm and welcoming. Our room was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. They had readied our room ahead of the usual check-in time, which we really appreciated. Their location in the city is great and we walked to most of the main sights. The shared hot tubs (separate for men and women) at the ryokan are well set up and relaxing. We're vegetarians, so we had to opt for the continental breakfast - it was hearty and of excellent quality. Our experience at Sumiyoshiya was so unique and comfortable that we'd prefer it to a hotel anyday.

The hotel provides you yukata for men and kimono for women, and you can keep them if you like (we did!). Breakfast was good but not great. The traditional Japanese style room was excellent with a small sitting area, which was quite pleasant. The staff was excellent and made us feel quite welcome. The onsen was excellent and quite hot; the water minerally and soothing. The facility was excellent.
