Amber was the person that greeted us at reception. A very smart, smiling young lady. She took our bags to the room once we had checked in. The room was very comfortable , and, clean . The bed was also lovely. Breakfast was a treat to eat. Full english, pancakes, cereals, toast.... endless choice. Homer Simpson would have been drooling! . Staff were very helpful and, helped my friend with her food order. Certainly will stay there again. Chris the manager was amazing too.. Ge certainly runs a tight shift, Well done to all staff ! xx

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through The Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

Fantastic city - plenty of bars cafes and restaurants, and interesting independent shops. Wonderful medieval architecture and quirky pubs. York Minster is well worth a visit with the underground museum informative and genuinely interesting. Definitely recommend coming to visit away from the busy periods as I can imagine the City becomes difficult to navigate with so many extra visitors. The Star Inn The City was a great find with great food and a lovely terrace overlooking the river.

The location was very good. There was plenty of transportation. The city buses and the tour buses had stops close by. And the main part of town was within walkable distance. I had to pay extra for breakfast and it was a little expensive but it was readily available and tasty with choices. The room was cozy and comfortable. The shower was one of the best I experienced over my five weeks of England travel. The staff were friendly and helpful.

I booked my room after checking out of an awful hotel. It was affordable, the staff were great and helpful, the room was clean and everything was working. The shower is a decent size and the bed was very comfy. It's only 8 mins from York city centre so the location is also great.
